Cultural Genocide: Hollywood's Whitewashing of Asian Roles

Only three Asian actors have ever won an Academy Award. Less than one percent of nominations have gone to Asians. Stakeholders have been systemically casting white actors to play Asian roles since the first presence of motion pictures. Hollywood executives attempt to appeal to Hollywood's global audience with familiar, Caucasian actors in order to maximize box office revenue. This practice, known as whitewashing, has led to vast underrepresentation of Asians in the film industry.
