Building Infrastructure for the "Subaltern Voice" of Latin American Immigrant Women through Novela-Testimonio
This senior project challenges the canon by discussing the importance of recognizing novela-testimonio as a literary genre within Anglo-American academia. Hurtarte Leon takes part in a discussion with other scholars about the genre and explores it by creating her own. Later Hurtarte Leon analyzes her own text alongside the writings of Gloria Anzaldúa, Pierre Macherey, and Gayatri Spivak. The author also proposes that through this genre, the subaltern voice can find resistance, healing and empowerment.
