Identity in Art and its Ties to Ethnography
My objective is to explore themes of identity in contemporary art through an ethnographic mindset by specifically looking at how the identities of certain minority artists manifests through their work and how their art practices and processes could be compared to ethnographic methodologies. The particular methodologies I refer to are those of auto-ethnographers, the self-observation and reflexive investigative nature in contexts of ethnographic fieldwork and writing. In addition to my own visual analysis, I will be offering different perspectives from artists, critics, and theorists assessing the ways in which an ethnographic perspective is at work in the art world.
