Laterality in Professions

Human beings, like many other species, prefer to use on side or appendage over the others to complete tasks. We also develop a dominant hemisphere in our brain. which some argue determines the preferred side and laterality. This study records efforts to find if a left-hander’s handedness has an influence on what they choose as their profession. A survey was prepared regarding a participant’s past job history, professions they would be glad work in, their current profession, and finally their handedness. A sample size of 37 left-handers and 92 right-handers was attained and their surveys were analyzed. Both samples showed that, overall, fewer individuals pursued “Creative” fields rather than “Rational” ones; However, the left-handers had slightly higher ratios of Creative individuals than the right-handers across all comparisons between handedness with fields of study. The null hypothesis that there would be no correlation between handedness and profession was rejected.
