The Correlative Dilemma of Internet Use and Mental Health

Abstract Numerous studies have highlighted the role that mental illnesses such as ADHD, OCD, anxiety and depression play in the likelihood of developing internet dependency. At this point substantial evidence exists to support the idea that addiction to the internet and other stimulating technology (i.e.: video games) indicate underlying symptoms of mental health problems. However, to date there is little published literature or proven research regarding the possibility that increased internet and technology use in society contributes to mental health issues that otherwise would not exist. This study demonstrates the need for further research regarding the burden internet and technology places on mental health in our society, especially in regards to the developing minds of adolescents and young children.
