Do it from Losers
The goal of this project is to demonstrate the similarities between the mental game of pro sport athletes and pro video gaming athletes, to show these similarities and prove the often ill-perceived reality that gaming competition lacks the same depth as conventional sport. This is done through the lens of top gaming athlete Alex Cottrell, via a documentary titled “Do It From Losers.” The documentary follows Alex’s career and life through the video gaming community and his path to becoming one of the best players in the world at “Super Smash Brothers Melee.” The documentary displays the mental challenges a pro gaming athlete must go through in order to become one of the best, this is in conjunction with the literature gathered which displays the mental aspects of conventional sports competition. The Literature also reflects various Mental challenges which exist within video gaming. It will be argued within the documentary that competition within video gaming does match up to that of conventional sports.
