The Space Between: African America Women and Depictions of Their Mental Health in Film
This research looks into examples of African American women and how their mental health is depicted in film. In searching for examples of recent films that dealt with this subject there were only a few, and there have been no studies into this subject specifically. This research had to then draw upon statistics from sources such as the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, to understand what information there is on African American women and mental health. Finally, there is a comparison of facts on films that have been released over the past ten years dealing with African American women and mental health, and successful films that deal with a woman and mental health issues, but the woman is not of African American descent.
