Analyzing the Complex Experience of Strippers of Color
The purpose of this study will be to fill a gap in the sociological literature of sex work. I hypothesize that women of color working in the strip club industry not only experience sexual and racial denigration, but can also experience empowerment through her sexualized body. The literature on stripping is saturated with white participants and little mention of race affecting the data. This study intends to expand the understanding of Black and Afro-Latinx women in this industry. Too often, the stereotype preceed the individual and they can be overlooked. With such few data surrounding strippers of color, the overall data is biased and exclusive.
