Higher Education Rising Faster Than Inflation
The cost of higher education is a huge concern today. As tuition continues to grow at an alarming rate, it is becoming harder for the average American family to fund college expenses. What is the reasoning as to why college tuition rose faster than the national rate of inflation? This senior dissertation will focus on the investigation of the factors and reasoning that led up to the outrageous cost of college tuition. The factors that will be included will be the supply side (the faculty and the administration), along with the demand side, which includes the students. The prevalent problem that will be analyzed comprehensively is the lack of aid the government gives to higher education in the United States. The cost of higher education has been rising faster than inflation in which students have to take out excessive loans in order to fund their college career. Now, whose fault is it: is it the administration’s fault or the faculty’s fault that led to the uprise of the cost of the University’s tuition? In other words, what led to higher institutions rising faster than national inflation?
