Nietzsche's Typewriter: How Technology Informs the Creative Imagination

This paper examines the extent to which creative thought is informed by the technologies available for creative expression. The author contends that technology is deeply implicated, consciously and subconsciously, not only in executing art, but before, from the moment of the initial creative impulse. Artifice, our tools, but also our human devised rules and conventions--including language--are inextricably part of what it means to think creatively.
