Referencing Styles—A Never-Ending Demand for Uniform Journal Requirements

For a scientist, effective communication is possible when distractions are reduced and the path to publication is made hassle-free. To publish, an author must follow the respective journal’s guidelines, which include rules for crediting sources used in their manuscript. This facilitates due credit to the original author and their idea, and readers can track the sources, reducing plagiarism. But these guidelines impose an unnecessary task: modifying the referencing style following each journal’s requirements, which often is a time-consuming task, especially when the manuscript is being submitted to different journals due to repeated rejections. In light of this never-ending demand, this article highlights the necessity of having a uniform referencing style or, at least, minimizing the number of styles so that authors and readers can concentrate on the scientific work and its presentation rather than the publishing style.
