THE LAST U-TURN — AI, Transhumanism, and the Choice to Remain Human — Institutional Research & Book Framework Edition

THE LAST U-TURN is Book Five and the closing volume of The Architect’s Protocol. It brings the series from truth, power, morality and metaphysical authorship to the human being in the machine age. Its central question is not whether artificial intelligence will become more capable. It is whether growing capability will be mistaken for consciousness, personhood, moral authority or a licence to redesign the human being around optimization alone. The book examines artificial intelligence as tool, infrastructure and potential authority; transhumanism as a programme of enhancement and self-redesign; the distinction between intelligence and consciousness; embodiment and vulnerability; and what it calls the Human Operating System - an integrated view of body, mind, soul, covenant, limitation and responsibility. Its key distinction is hierarchical: a tool may exceed a human being in performance without thereby becoming the source of human meaning or moral worth. This research edition places the argument in conversation with transhumanist thought, existential risk, philosophy of mind, human enhancement, bioethics and AI governance. It does not claim that machine consciousness is impossible, that every enhancement is dehumanizing, or that AI development should stop. Its bounded conclusion is that technological power increases rather than removes the need for a prior account of personhood, dignity and responsibility. The last U-turn is therefore a question of hierarchy: what may be delegated, what may be enhanced, and what must never be surrendered merely because surrender is technically efficient.
