Augmented Reality: The Enhanced Tools for Students' Visual Thinking in Secondary Mathematics Learning

Abstract Numerous contemporary advancements have surfaced in the integration of technology into educational settings. Various ideas, methodologies, and technological advances can be employed to address the elusive, intangible, and complex dimensions of education. The use of augmented reality is a nascent technological advancement that has the potential to merge virtual and physical environments in educational contexts seamlessly. This study aimed to determine augmented reality technology's influence on student outcomes. The study also investigated students' viewpoints regarding augmented reality applications. The experimental group participants in the study were provided with clear instructions only to employ the Assemblr Edu program, which the researchers developed. An explanatory design was employed as one of the mixed research approaches. The study utilized quasi-experimental research to evaluate the visual thinking ability of students. The qualitative component of the study involved the utilization of a semi-structured interview guide. The data were collected from a sample of sixty seventh-grade pupils registered at a school in Purwokerto, Indonesia. The findings of this study revealed that the participants reported many good user experiences. Additionally, we engage in brief dialogues with the participants in the focus group sessions. Furthermore, this research offers a thorough synthesis of design concepts and recommendations to enhance the efficacy of mathematics instruction. To ensure a smooth implementation process, it is crucial for future researchers to thoroughly prepare the classroom setting and rigorously adhere to all necessary safety protocols.
