A Disaster Preparedness Checklist in Construction Project Planning

This study examines the potential for developing a disaster preparedness checklist that can be utilized in construction planning to improve project resilience. To that end, a comprehensive literature study was conducted on various publications related to disaster risk management in the construction industry. This study maps the extent to which disaster risk checklists are available, how they are used, and what gaps still exist in their application. Furthermore, this study develops a disaster preparedness checklist that can be used in construction project planning. It covers aspects of design, location, infrastructure, team readiness, project recovery protocol, and external coordination. The proposed checklist was further reviewed and validated by expert respondents. This study has two main benefits. For academics, the results of this study can be the basis for developing a more structured and applicable disaster risk evaluation framework in the construction context. Meanwhile, for practitioners, the findings of this study can serve as an initial guide for compiling or adapting a disaster risk checklist appropriate to the project type and geographic location. Ultimately, this effort is expected to increase the resilience of the construction sector in the face of disaster threats and to contribute to sustainable infrastructure development.
