Role of Khanduchhaka Lepa along with POP in Monteggia Fracture Dislocation: A Case Report
Background: Sandhi moksha and Kanda Bhagna are the two classical principles of Shalya Tantra scripted by Acharya Sushruta. To achieve localized immobilization, he utilized rigid, botanical splints harvested from resilient plant species, including Ficus glomerata (Udumber), Glycyrrhiza glabra (Madhuk), and Ficus religiosa (Ashvath).Aims and objectives: To evaluate the efficacy of Bhairi/Chamror/Khanduchhaka Lepa with Plaster of Paris (POP) in Monteggia fracture-dislocation in an 8-year-old male patient.Materials and methods: The patient came with a history of a fall associated with edema, redness, crepitations, and restricted left-hand movement.Discussion: In this clinical case, a union of a ulna fracture was managed conservatively using daily applications of a fresh Ehretia laevis (Bhairi/ Chamror/Khanduchhaka) Lepa over 2 weeks, paired with structured limb immobilization.Clinical efficacy was rigorously monitored through the visual analog scale (VAS).The therapeutic intervention yielded a highly significant clinical response, marked by a substantial downregulation of localized edema and an optimization of the functional recovery metrics. Conclusion: This single-subject clinical report demonstrates that topical Bhairi/Chamror/Khanduchhaka Lepa serves as a highly effective, minimally invasive alternative modality for managing fracture consolidation.
