The Structural Operating System of European Civilization:
This study reconstructs the structural continuity of European civilization from the Roman Republic to contemporary Europe by interpreting history not as a sequence of events but as the operation of a persistent civilizational operating system (OS). The analysis identifies three core structural components that have shaped European social organization for over two millennia: (1) the labor-fixation structure rooted in agricultural production, (2) the wall-based internal management structure originating from medieval fortified settlements, and (3) the misrecognition structure, consisting of fundamental misidentification and its subsequent escalation, modeled here using Luke 23:34–35 as an abstract representation of cognitive and institutional divergence. These structures manifest in different historical forms: serfdom and castle-based control in the Middle Ages; externalization through maritime expansion and colonial rule in the Age of Discovery; re-fixation of labor through industrial factories; nationalization of labor and borders in the modern nation-state; and partial institutional redesign in the European Union and welfare systems after the world wars. Despite these transformations, the underlying OS—labor fixation, internal management through boundary structures, and systemic misrecognition— remains identifiable across epochs. This framework provides a unified structural interpretation of European history and clarifies how long-standing civilizational mechanisms were intensified, externalized, or reconfigured in response to internal limitations. The study does not propose future directions; rather, it offers a structural lens through which readers may independently interpret contemporary and future civilizational developments.
