Antimicrobial activity of nano-porous MoS2: Effect of structure and morphology

Molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ) nanoporous powders and thin films on glass substrates were successfully synthesized using an eco-friendly green chemical route. Structural and morphological comparisons were conducted using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Further both the forms demonstrated strong antibacterial efficacy against Escherichia coli, Bacillus cereus and antifungal activity against C.albicans driven by high surface-area interactions with microbial membranes. Notably, the uniform surface of the thin film provided superior reactive sites, yielding enhanced antimicrobial efficacy compared to the powder form. These findings highlight the potential of these green-synthesized (MoS 2 ) nanomaterials for advanced biomedical and veterinary applications.
