Conceptual Design of the Roof-Root Dual-Operation Structure: An Architecture Connecting Potentiality, Reality, and Flow in AI Operating Systems and Software Projects
Operating systems and software project processes have developed increasingly sophisticated capabilities for execution and implementation. However, the continuous connection among purpose, identity, context, relationships, memory, and execution outcomes remains fragmented across auxiliary services and management activities. This paper proposes the Roof-Root dual-operation structure as a conceptual architecture for addressing that discontinuity. Roof is the role that opens potentiality and forms purpose, direction, identity, context, and relationships. Root is the role that realizes selected potentiality as concrete functions and forms. The two roles form a horizontal feedback cycle in which execution outcomes reopen and reshape potentiality. For operating systems, the paper proposes Roof OS, Root OS, and Roof-Root OS profiles on a shared core, with the logical namespaces roof://, root://, and roft://. A least-privileged, non-login service called ROFT mediates request validation, execution, result return, auditing, and recovery. Continuity Memory is introduced as a design object distinct from a long context window. For software projects, the conventional management process is reframed as a Roof Process, or flow process, while the development process corresponds to the Root Process. This design-science conceptual study specifies constructs, interfaces, threat boundaries, falsifiable propositions, and evaluation metrics for subsequent prototyping and field validation.
