"FORMULATION & EVALUATION OF SUSTAINED RELEASE DOSAGE FORM ON ANTI-ULCER TREATMENT USING EMBLICA OFFICINALIS."
AbstractPeptic ulcer disease is a common gastrointestinal disorder requiring prolonged therapy foreffective management. The present study aimed to formulate and evaluate sustained-releasetablets of Emblica officinalis (Amla) extract for antiulcer activity. The fruits of Emblicaofficinalis were collected, authenticated, dried, powdered, and extracted using ahydroalcoholic solvent system. The obtained extract was standardized through phytochemicalevaluation and incorporated into sustained-release tablets using polymers such as HPMCK15M/K100M, Carbopol 934, and Ethylcellulose by the direct compression method. Theformulated tablets were evaluated for various physicochemical parameters including weightvariation, hardness, friability, thickness, drug content uniformity, and in vitro dissolutionstudies. The tablets exhibited satisfactory physical and mechanical properties with acceptablehardness, low friability, and uniform drug content. In vitro dissolution studies demonstrated asustained drug release pattern over 12–24 hours. Drug release kinetic analysis revealed thatthe release profile predominantly followed Higuchi and Korsmeyer–Peppas models, indicating diffusion-controlled release from the polymeric matrix. The study concluded thatsustained-release tablets of Emblica officinalis can provide prolonged release of bioactivecompounds, improve patient compliance, and offer a promising herbal approach for themanagement of peptic ulcer disease.
