Preparation of three-layer biomimetic woven fabrics inspired by water transport system of Xinjiang poplar and analysis on moisture-absorption and quick-drying properties

To tackle low synergistic efficiency of the absorption-transport-evaporation process in conventional thermal-humid comfort fabrics, this study develops a biomimetic fabric inspired by the root-trunk system in Xinjiang poplar, using local ramie fiber. We propose a biomimetic model featuring’ high-efficiency absorption + wide-range capture-rapid conduction-intense evaporation’ biomimetic model. This three-layer structure adopts inner layer for high-strength water absorption, middle polypropylene fibers for fast moisturetransfer, surface ramie blend for rapid evaporation.. Tests show the design boosts fabric moisture permeability by 25.6%, increases evaporation rate by 50.0%, reaching Level 4 sweat-wicking performance. This poplar’s water conduction mechanism matches textile moisture management well, and the model fits diverse fibers and weaves.. This research offers theoretical support and technical guidance for developing moisture-wicking and quick-drying fabrics through biomimetic approaches.
