The Undiscovered Human: A Philosophical Essay on the Hidden Taxonomy of Human Capacities

This essay argues that contemporary psychology is in its pre-Mendeleev phase: the human traits we recognize today — intelligence, creativity, empathy — are not the fundamental building blocks of the person, but merely the traits that happened to be visible to twentieth-century instruments. Starting from three structural limits (the lexical trap, the observer's resolution limit, the theorist's dimensionality limit), the essay proposes that artificial intelligence — used as a lens rather than a replacement — could produce the first empirical taxonomy of human capacities: a periodic table with predictive empty slots. It introduces five candidate capacities without existing names, examines the domain of the "superhuman" as a falsifiable frontier, formulates four dangers of the legible human, and closes with five conditions for turning the hypothesis into a research program — including a constitution that must precede the first measurement.
