Thermoelastic effects on material temperature in hydrogen/oxygen premixed flame–material interaction: A numerical study
Accurate prediction of the material temperature field during hydrogen flame heating is essential for assessing thermal loading and material integrity. In the present work, a thermo-mechanically coupled numerical model is employed to investigate transient flame–material interaction between a laminar hydrogen/oxygen premixed strained flame and a solid material. Particular attention is paid to the influence of the thermoelastic (Gough–Joule) effect on the material temperature evolution. The results show that the Gough–Joule effect acts as an additional heat source and accelerates the heating process. By using flame with high strain rate, neglecting the Gough–Joule effect results in noticeable error in the predicted time required for the material to reach the yield-strength condition. The relative importance of the Gough–Joule effect is found to increase monotonically with flame strain rate. These findings indicate that thermoelastic coupling can substantially influence transient flame–material interaction under rapid hydrogen-flame heating and should be considered when accurate prediction of the material temperature field is required.
