Beyond the Mean: Temporal Structure as Biological Information in The Universal Resonance Model
This concept note develops a measurement principle within The Universal Resonance Model (URM): biological information may reside not only in the absolute level or mean of a physiological variable, but also in its temporal structure, variability, stability, and directional evolution. Heart-rate variability and repeated saccadic-latency measurements in Parkinson’s disease are used as separate methodological illustrations. The paper distinguishes absolute levels, within-signal dynamics, and coordinated dynamics across coupled biological regulatory systems. It proposes that temporal changes become specifically relevant to URM when they are associated with altered cross-system coordination, instability gain, or transition risk. The article presents a conceptual and testable extension of URM. It does not establish a diagnostic biomarker, clinical monitoring method, treatment recommendation, or validated early-warning signal. No new experimental or clinical data were generated or analyzed.
