The Hankel Structural Ceiling: A Universal Differential-Rank Bound for Time-Series Subspace Embeddings

Abstract — English We study the map that sends a real time series x ∈ ℝⁿ to the dominant rank-r spectral projector of its Hankel–Gram matrix A(x) = H(x)H(x)ᵀ, where H(x) ∈ ℝ^{a×b} and n = a + b − 1. On the regular domain defined by the strict spectral gap λ_r(A) > λ_{r+1}(A), we prove the universal differential-rank bound rank D(Φ_r ∘ A)_x ≤ min{ n−1, r(a−r), 3a−5 }. The three ceilings arise from radial invariance, the dimension of the Grassmannian, and a diagonal-displacement constraint specific to Hankel–Gram variations. Exact modular rank and 512-bit Arb ball arithmetic certify attainment of the structural ceiling at (11,20,5) and (12,22,6), where 3a−5 is strictly smaller than both competing ceilings. The certified ranks are 28 and 31. At both witnesses, W_H ∩ C_P = span{I, A} and Γ_{P,H} is injective. A basis-independent analytic rank invariant, ‖Λ^R G_x‖², then yields generic equality on the connected gap components containing the certified witnesses. Uniform generic equality for all admissible parameter triples remains open. The deposit provides the theorem, integer witnesses, rigorous certificates and reproducible scripts as an open mathematical instrument for time-series subspace analysis.
