Analyzing the Effect of Financial Mismanagement on Abandoned Urban Transport Projects: A Case Study of Rivers Monorail
The main objective of this study is to examine the effect of financial mismanagement on abandoned urban transport projects: a case study of Rivers Monorail. The specific objectives were to examine the effect of Financial Reporting Misconduct on Abandoned Urban Transport Projects, and evaluate the effect of Internal Control on Abandoned Urban Transport Projects. A descriptive research design was adopted for the study. A structured questionnaire designed with a five-point Likert scale was used to collect data for the study. The statistical techniques used were simple percentages and chi-square analysis; the collected data were coded and analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) Version 28.0. The result revealed that Financial Reporting Misconduct has a significant effect on Abandoned Urban Transport Projects, with a P-value of (0.025 < 0.05), and Internal Control has a significant effect on Abandoned Urban Transport Projects, with a P-value of (0.031 < 0.05): a case study of Rivers Monorail. The study concluded that financial mismanagement is a primary catalyst for the abandonment of large-scale urban transport infrastructure. The study recommended that government agencies must enforce routine, independent forensic audits at every phase of large-scale transport projects, rather than relying solely on year-end financial statements.
