Mechanical and Thermal Properties Analysis of Robi 1 Jute Fiber Reinforced HDPE Composite: A New Horizon in Biocomposite

High-performance natural fiber composites are a key focus in the global industrial sector. Robi 1, a newly identified jute variant, has not been thoroughly examined for its thermal and mechanical properties in fiber-reinforced composites. Firstly, the bundle strength of Robi 1 jute fiber was determined and compared with other jute varieties. This study fabricated composites using Robi-1 jute fibers of different cutting lengths (6-inch, 2.5-inch, and whisker forms) with high-density polyethylene (HDPE) as the matrix. The fiber content was maintained at 15% by weight, and composites were fabricated using a hot press machine. The structural characteristics were analyzed with SEM and FTIR, while the mechanical properties were evaluated through hardness, impact strength, tensile, and flexural strength tests. The thermal stability was assessed using TGA and DSC analyses. Among the samples, the 2.5-inch Robi-1 fiber composites displayed the maximum flexural strength (45 MPa) and modulus (2500 MPa), while the 6-inch fiber composites exhibited enhanced thermal stability. The characterization results demonstrate that Robi-1-based composites can function as a sustainable and viable option for seedling trays in agricultural and horticultural contexts.
