Microscopic Foundations of the Evolution Field: A Discrete Vacuum Approach
In a previous work, the Evolution Field was introduced as a physical field governing the local rate of physical becoming, providing an operational interpretation of time and a mechanism by which gravitational phenomena emerge from spatial variations in the evolution rate. The present paper investigates a possible microscopic origin of that field. We propose that the physical vacuum is fundamentally discrete rather than continuous, consisting of locally interacting vacuum elements that evolve through causal update events. Each vacuum element possesses a natural evolution rate corresponding to the unconstrained vacuum state, while the presence of mass-energy locally suppresses this evolution. A nearest-neighbour update rule is introduced, from which a continuum evolution equation is obtained in the large-scale limit. Within the weak-field approximation, the resulting continuum equation possesses the same mathematical structure as Poisson’s equation for Newtonian gravity, allowing the inverse-square law to emerge naturally from the evolution-gradient hypothesis. The framework is presented as a candidate microscopic foundation for the Evolution Field introduced previously rather than as a replacement for General Relativity. Throughout the paper, explicit distinction is maintained between mathematical derivations and physical hypotheses.
