Demarcating Shadows. Through the Synthesis of Methodologies

This work proposes a methodological framework for the detection and discrimination of geochemical anomalies in sedimentary rocks of various ages — from the Archean to the Holocene. The framework integrates two independent concepts: the Silurian Hypothesis (Schmidt & Frank, 2019), which formulates criteria for the detection of a prehistoric global industrial civilization based on synchronous multi-parametric anomalies, and the Carbon Shadow Tier (CST) Hypothesis, which posits the existence of stable, pre-cellular carbon systems lacking a genetic code and capable of local, asynchronous isotopic fractionation. The Resonance Theory of Evolution (RTE) serves as an interpretive bridge, introducing an operational coherence index (CI) that distinguishes highly coherent (technogenic or hyperthermal) events from low-coherence events with phase lags (CST). The paper presents a sequential five-step discrimination algorithm (Steps 0–5), including global/regional screening, coherence analysis, NanoSIMS mapping, chirality measurements, and LA-ICP-MS microanalysis. A system of discrimination tests against false positive imitators (hydrothermal activity, volcanism, hyperthermals, microbial activity, impacts, diagenesis) is introduced. A verification and calibration plan based on reference sections (Anthropocene and Archean) is proposed. Appendices provide a detailed contamination control protocol, a Python implementation of the CI calculation, a discrimination test matrix, and a sample verification protocol for Anthropocene deposits. The work does not claim the factual existence of CST or a technogenic civilization, but offers a reproducible, open-source toolkit for searching for any form of complex carbon organization in the geological record.
