ECHO-TWIN: An Integrated Digital Ecosystem for the Edge-Cloud-HPC Continuum
Slides presented during the GARR Conference 2026 on the project ECHO-TWIN. The GARR Conference is the event where experiences are shared on the use of infrastructures and digital services by those who use the GARR network and those who actively contribute to its development and service improvement. ECHO TWIN is a strategic programme of the ICSC National Centre dedicated to the development of intelligent digital ecosystems based on Digital Twins and a computational continuum integrating Edge, Cloud, and HPC. The initiative is structured into three complementary actions: RISE, focused on advanced research on Digital Twins applied to complex systems; NET, aimed at the development of interoperable operational infrastructures and experimentation in distributed laboratories; and UP, dedicated to training and skills development in AI, distributed computing, data management, and Digital Twins. The programme addresses in an integrated manner key themes of digital transformation such as sovereignty, interoperability, security, and ethics, enabling autonomous, resilient, and sustainable systems with applications in healthcare, mobility, the environment, and urban resilience.
