The Hidden Bottleneck in Critical Minerals: Why Upstream Beneficiation Determines Midstream Viability: A Unified Framework for Characterizing Flotation Collector Adsorption Reveals the Scientific Foundation for Modular, Multi-Feedstock Separation Pla

This paper presents a systems-level analysis of the emerging convergence between flotation chemistry, modular mineral processing, computational modeling, and industrial policy. It argues that upstream beneficiation is the primary determinant of midstream processing performance and introduces a five-layer “Beneficiation Intelligence” framework describing how characterization, prediction, control, and integration enable feedstock-agnostic mineral processing platforms. Drawing on the 2026 Neisiani et al. flotation adsorption framework, the IEA Global Critical Minerals Outlook 2026, recent industry deployments, and U.S. critical minerals policy, the paper outlines why processing intelligence is becoming a strategic capability for critical mineral supply chains.
