Purkinje cells in schizophrenia: a neural portrait of the disease
This review is devoted to structuring and systematizing knowledge about the morphological changes of Purkinje cells in schizophrenia. Various scientific papers using histological, micrometric and neuroimaging methods of studying the structure of the cerebellum of patients with schizophrenia declare certain pathognomonic pathological changes. The systematization and structuring of scientific data concerning the issue of changes in the morphology of Purkinje cells in schizophrenia, the so-called "neural portrait" of the disease, is not only fundamental, but also of practical benefit to specialists such as neuroscientists, morphologists, pathologists, doctors of forensic medicine, since a clear understanding of the characteristic disorders of a complex neural system will allow for more accurate postmortem diagnosis, as well as serve as new starting points for further morpho-functional studies of this problem.
