IPM strategy for stable biocontrol of Tuta absoluta in organic greenhouse tomato production
ProblemTuta absoluta causes severe yield losses; resistance to Spinosad in organic systems is reported and overuse can harm beneficial insects and Integrated Pest Management (IPM). SolutionAn IPM strategy combining mirid predators, parasitoids, alternative food sources and complementary biocontrol tools (e.g. biopesticides, pheromones) was developed in Mediterranean organic greenhouses. BenefitsImproves pest control performance, reducing pesticide use and yield losses. Associated costs are offset by lower crop damage and input requirements.
