Intervention-enabled knowledge dissemination for salvaging technological innovation failures: a system science perspective

In this study, a knowledge-dissemination model is developed within an epidemiological framework that incorporates an intervention-based salvaging mechanism for technological innovation failures. The basic reproduction number of the proposed model is derived, and the local and global asymptotic stability of the equilibria are rigorously established. Furthermore, by applying Pontryagin's maximum principle, an optimal control strategy is formulated to promote technological innovation through enhanced knowledge dissemination, thereby providing an operational framework for the intervention-driven salvaging mechanism. Empirical analysis demonstrates that external intervention measures, such as artificial intelligence (AI), significantly improve the recovery of failed technological innovation projects. Numerical simulations further indicate that external interventions, including the use of AI, increase the number of successful innovations, strengthen knowledge sharing and collaborative interactions between teams involved in failed and successful projects, and ultimately lead to a sustained improvement in the overall innovation success rate.
