Investigating Gene–Brain–Behaviour Pathways in Chinese Orthographic Processing and Literacy Development

This project preregisters an MPhil study examining gene–brain–behaviour pathways in Hong Kong Chinese–English bilingual children. The study tests whether polygenic scores and a secondary DCDC2 candidate locus predict EEG N1 print tuning during Chinese character processing, whether home literacy environment moderates these associations, and whether N1 print tuning mediates associations between genetic predictors and Chinese/English literacy outcomes.

Abstract

This project preregisters an MPhil study examining gene–brain–behaviour pathways in Hong Kong Chinese–English bilingual children. The study tests whether polygenic scores and a secondary DCDC2 candidate locus predict EEG N1 print tuning during Chinese character processing, whether home literacy environment moderates these associations, and whether N1 print tuning mediates associations between genetic predictors and Chinese/English literacy outcomes.
