Advancements in Ozonation‐Based Treatment of Tetracycline Hydrochloride Contamination in Water: Mechanisms, Synergetic Effects, Implications, and Prospects
ABSTRACT This literature review focuses on the use of ozonation as an advanced oxidation process (AOP) for removing tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH) from water sources, addressing associated environmental and public health concerns. It explores recent studies on TCH degradation mechanisms during ozonation, emphasizing the role of reactive ozone (O 3 ) species. Factors affecting TCH removal efficiency, such as O 3 dosage, pH, temperature, and reaction time, are discussed. The review compares ozonation with other treatment methods, considering its advantages and limitations. Environmental implications and toxicity assessments of TCH breakdown by‐products are examined to understand the overall effects of the treatment process. The review underscores the importance of understanding the relationship between reactive oxygen species and TCH. It concludes by highlighting potential future developments and the need for ongoing innovation and collaboration to address this environmental challenge effectively.
