Fintech and risk implications: a review of a collection of new studies
The recent advances, particularly in artificial intelligence, blockchain, and generative AI, suggest that financial technology (Fintech) increasingly alters not only how financial services are delivered but also the underlying economic mechanisms governing financial decision-making, risk management, and market interactions. This special issue focuses on the financial risk implications of these technological developments. In contrast to prior research that emphasizes technological adoption and platform innovation, the papers in this collection examine how emerging technologies reshape financial risk assessment with respect to asset pricing, financial intermediation, and DeFi market behaviors. By highlighting the interaction between technological innovation and finance theory, this special issue aims to deepen our understanding of how technologies are transforming financial systems and to identify new research directions for studying financial risk in an increasingly automated and data-driven business environment.
