Redo surgeries after total repair of tetralogy of Fallot

Objective. To study the causes of redo surgeries after total repair of tetralogy of Fallot and specific factors leading to complications. Material and methods. Between January 1986 and December 2024, 411 total corrections of tetralogy of Fallot were performed. Of these, 30 patients underwent redo surgeries for various complications. Thus, the redo surgery rate was 7.3%. Results. There were no deaths after redo surgery. Complicated postoperative period was observed in 3 (10%) patients. There was moderate heart failure with necessary inotropic support for 2—3 days. In addition, pericardial effusion was observed in 3 cases after 6—8 days with effective therapy. We found no significant differences in complication rates or hospital-stay between primary and redo surgeries. Conclusion. Redo surgeries after total correction of tetralogy of Fallot significantly improve the quality of life with favorable immediate and long-term results.
