Cervidpoxvirus-Associated Ulcerative Lesions in a Free-Ranging White-Tailed Deer (Odocoileus virginianus) in New York State, USA
A free-ranging juvenile female white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) from New York state, USA, was euthanized for abnormal behavior. Necropsy identified ulcerative lesions on the nasal planum, tongue, and esophageal mucosa. Virus isolation, PCR, sequencing, and phylogenetic analysis confirmed Cervidpoxvirus infection, not previously documented causing clinical infection in free-ranging white-tailed deer.
