Stability analysis of offshore triceratops under tether failure conditions in diverse sea states
The compliant offshore triceratops consists of a deck supported by buoyant legs through ball-and-socket joints, sharing translation while maintaining independent rotation. Taut-moored tethers connect the legs to the seabed, conforming to position-restraint conditions. The current study examines tether analysis of offshore triceratops under failure conditions. The elliptic nature of the phase plots confirms bounded and periodic motion. Tether tension time history under the postulated failure confirms safe and stable conditions of the platform. Plots show a shift in the mean position of heave response, indicating effective re-centering. While tether failure induced a larger shift in heave position, but it is capable of attaining the desired dynamic equilibrium, indicating stability even under critical failure state. This study introduces a novel approach by analyzing the tether stability of Offshore Triceratops through Mathieu’s parameters, considering various postulated failures along with the impact of wave and current conditions.
