Q-switched Nd:Yag laser in the management of physiological lip hyperpigmentation-comparison of results with 1064 nm and 532 nm

Objectives: This study aims to study the response of Q switched Nd:Yag laser in cases of physiologic lip hyperpigmentation by comparing the efficacy between 532 nm and 1064 nm. Material and Methods: This is a retrospective study which included cases from January 2020 to May 2024 in people who underwent Q-switched Nd:Yag laser for PLH. Patients who had undergone minimum of two sessions were included. Results: Twenty-four patients were enrolled of whom 12 patients had undergone treatment with 1064 nm, and 12 had undergone treatment with 532 nm. Five people had excellent responses, four had moderate responses, and three had mild response in the 532 nm group, in the 1064 nm group, 10 had mild response, and 2 had moderate response. The average fluence for 532 nm was less compared to 1064 nm. Better results were found with 532 nm than 1064 nm. There were no significant complications with both wavelengths. Conclusion: We conclude Q switched Nd:Yag laser with 532 nm wavelength has better efficacy compared to 1064 nm and is safe in the treatment of physiological lip pigmentation.
