Calculation of Radionuclide Migration at a Near Surface Disposal Facility in China Using Ecolego Software
Radionuclide migration calculation is a core component of the long-term safety assessment for a disposal facility. Based on hydrogeological survey results, this study employs software Ecolego to establish a compartment model for nuclide migration at the near surface disposal facility in Northwest China. The migration of radionuclides in groundwater after the closure of the disposal facility and the resulting radiation dose to the public are calculated. The results indicate that this disposal facility is effective for waste containing short-lived radionuclides (except for 3H). The radionuclides with a greater radiation impact on the public are 3H, 14C, and long-lived radionuclides. Therefore, it is necessary to limit the total inventory of long-lived radionuclides, 3H, and 14C during waste disposal.
