Cellulose-based photocatalyst with S-type heterojunction for efficiently removes heavy metals and organic pollutants under visible light

Indiscriminate discharge of industrial wastewater, organic pollutants and heavy metals seriously pollute the water environment, while removing heavy metals and antibiotics from wastewater remains a key challenge. Herein, a magnetic catalyst (Ni/NiO-TiO 2 , referred to as NOT) was prepared by in-situ growth of hetero-structure on the cellulose scaffold, and the cellulose template was removed by high temperature to form a tubular structure supported by biomass carbon. The S-type hetero-structure and large specific surface area of the catalyst enable synergistic photocatalytic redox mechanisms to increase wastewater treatment capacity. High concentrations of Cu (II), Pb (II), Cr (VI), TC, and OTC wastewater can be rapidly treated under Visible light. Specifically, the reduction rates for heavy metals reach 87%, 88%, and 71%, while the degradation rates for TC and OTC are as high as 86.8% and 81.5%, respectively. For the mixed high-concentration Cu (II)-TC wastewater, the removal efficiencies reach 81% (for Cu (II)) and 71.8% (for TC). This work offers novel insights for the construction of S-type hetero-structures and magnetic easy-to-recycle catalysts, and significantly promotes the development of catalysts suitable for rapid purification of water pollution.
