How latent personality profiles shape student engagement with artificial intelligence from a facet-level five-factor model analysis
While person-centred studies have begun to emerge, they have largely remained at the trait level. This study develops university student personality profiles at the facet level to explain student engagement with artificial intelligence (AI) using the Big Five personality framework. We also investigate the potential predictors of our identified personality profiles. Our latent profile analysis of 412 university students reveals three distinct profiles, Resilient, Overcontroller, and Undercontroller. Our findings further suggest that gender significantly predicted profile membership, with females more likely to be Resilient, while academic discipline had little effect. Using the BCH procedure for distal outcome analyses, we found that the Resilient profile exhibited the highest cognitive, affective, and behavioural engagement with AI-supported learning, whereas the Undercontroller profile showed the lowest.
