Predictors of Maximal Volumetric Tumor Resection in Patients Undergoing Surgery for Intra-Axial Brain Tumors: A Prospective Cohort Analysis
To identify predictors of maximal volumetric tumor resection in patients undergoing surgery for intra-axial brain tumors and to compare resection outcomes between neuronavigation-assisted and conventional surgical techniques. This prospective comparative study included 82 patients aged 20–60 years with MRI-confirmed intra-axial brain tumors. Patients were assigned into two equal groups: 41 underwent surgery with neuronavigation and 41 with the conventional technique. In the neuronavigation group, 70.7% achieved Group A resection and 29.3% achieved Group B resection, with no patient in Group C. In the conventional group, 26.8% achieved Group A resection and 73.2% achieved Group B resection, with no patient in Group C. The difference between groups was statistically significant (P<0.001). Neuronavigation significantly improves the likelihood of maximal volumetric resection in intra-axial brain tumors compared with the conventional surgical technique.
