The power of walls : fortifications in ancient Northeastern Africa
Fortifications in northeastern Africa have a long history of research and not only the impressive chain of Middle Kingdom forts erected in the region of the 2nd Cataract attracted researchers. After more than a hundred years of investigation and their presentation in numerous publications, among them several overviews1, still new fortifications can be discovered in Egypt and Sudan. Their studies offer new insights but also add new questions.
