Mediating role of Filipino spirituality between religious identity and external-spiritual locus-of-hope of Filipino emerging adults

Filipinos are recognized to be religious and lean on their religious identity that helps promote the sense of hope. This religious identity develops adherence to our beliefs that leads to fostering a relationship with God and others is what is called Filipino Spirituality. This paper argues that religious identity is a predictor of external-spiritual locus-of-hope. The relationship between religious identity and external-spiritual locus-of-hope is mediated by the two key themes of Filipino spirituality – God and others. A cross-sectional quantitative design and mediation analysis was utilized to assess this model. We were able to gather a total of 1,020 participants from Luzon to accomplish the religious identity, spirituality, and locus-of-hope scale. Findings suggest that religious identity predicts external-spiritual locus-of-hope of Filipino emerging adults. Moreover, it was found that Filipino spirituality (relationship with fellows and relationship with God) components partially mediate religious identity and external-spiritual locus-of-hope.
