“Survival at a better cost”: Evaluation of a nonprofit market using photovoice
Abstract Nonprofit food stores offer foods at a low cost to those who live in low‐access areas, but evaluations of such interventions are scarce. The purpose of this qualitative, phenomenological study utilizing photovoice was to evaluate how a nonprofit market impacted individuals' lives. Participants ( n = 11) took photographs over 1 week after completing a photovoice training session and chose 3 photographs for a one‐on‐one interview. Content analysis was utilized. While the low‐cost fruits and vegetables were meaningful to participants, the nonprofit market had wide reaching effects including family closeness, a sense of community, and hope for the future.
