Teaching With the Great Postal Heist: Key Management Concepts in the Context of a Public Institution
The Great Postal Heist is a documentary film that looks at the history and current situation of the United States Postal Service. The film allows the students to investigate familiar concepts in the context of an independent governmental organization. The documentary shows problematic behaviors of many of the managers that connect to concepts of toxic leadership. The resulting culture includes a mix of toxic elements and a strong feeling of meaning in their work. The film presents opportunities to also discuss issues of strategy and labor relations. It is appropriate for both undergraduate and graduate students and can be easily used in online or face-to-face classes.
