Enhancing Tourism Resilience Through a Multi-Level Approach: From Individual to Destination
The existing scholarship highlights the multi-level and multi-actor aspects of tourism resilience, yet few studies scrutinise the latter. This study aims to deepen this understanding by exploring the different elements of resilience, the different actors involved, and how they interact to enhance the resilience of the tourism system. Using discourse analysis on a tourism resilience conference that gathered different tourism system actors together, the study contributes to the existing destination resilience literature by presenting a new model that identifies the elements of a tourism resilience system and the three principles that underpin the strong connections between actors: open and transparent communication, trust, and collaboration. The study thereby advances the understanding of strategies to achieve tourism resilience for individuals, organisations, communities, and destinations, and seeks to inform resilience planning in tourism destinations.
