A Structural Approach to Identify Promising Natural Compound-Based Lead Candidates against the FemX protein of the ESKAPE pathogen Staphylococcus aureus
FemX (Lipid II: Glycine glycyltransferase) adds the first glycine that forms the interpeptide chain between two muropeptides. Its inhibition weakens cell wall stability, leading to the formation of nonviable cells. Hence, inhibiting FemX might weaken the resistance mechanism against methicillin for Staphylococcus aureus.
